Dr Henry Parkes, Associate Professor, Department of Music, University of Nottingham researches the music and musical cultures of Western Christianity, with a particular emphasis on Gregorian chant. In this afternoon workshop he will explain how the Chapter House helped to sustain practices of worship and music in medieval Southwell. The two basses from the Cathedral Choir combine for a recital of piano duets, songs and cello music. Featured composers will include Schubert, Dvorak, Faure, Roger Quilter and Peter Warlock. Regrettably, at the moment, refreshments will not be served.  Admission to these lunchtime concerts is free, although contributions to a retiring collection will be invited, proceeds of  which go towards the Minster’s organ .scholarship

Take a 45-minute tour of Southwell Minster with one of the Minster's friendly and knowledgeable guides. The tour will also take in the newly reopened Chapter House which has been closed for over a year whilst undergoing significant conservation work (thanks to a £2.2m National Lottery Heritage Funded project).
