Went to the Autumn Steam Punk open day at the end of October. We were a group of four adults and all of us were really impressed with the wide range of historical clocks and watches along with interpretations of the development of both amazing. There are also a few more recent additions including a modern three pendulum clock which seemed to draw people of all ages. We went into the watch workshop and got chatting to one of the instructors (they do workshops for those who want to learn moreover). Really good to be able to ask questions about the internal workings and very interesting information about digital watches. The tiny instruments they have to work with and seeing tiny components picked up with very fine tweezers showed incredible skill.
Seeing all the Steam Punk people dressed up in stunning clothes with whacky “devices” added to the day although it did have the effect of making the interior and car parking very busy. We were in the overflow car park which was a grassy field and proved to be expensive for me as I needed to replace my car exhaust after my visit so a warning to be more careful than I was if you attend on a similarly busy day!
The Clock House cafe food looked good but didn’t try as when we had coffee there the room was very cold from the drafty doorway which was no doubt open to reduce the steam from cooking.
