I am trying to raise £1600 to buy an emergency lifting cushion for Moorfield Court in Southwell.
My own parents moved into Moorfield Court three years ago at the start of the COVID pandemic. Whilst everything is done to minimise the risk of residents falling over in their accommodation, accidents do inevitably happen. Fosse HealthCare staff are always there to respond to alarm calls (24 hours a day) but are then faced with the dilemma of how to support a resident who has fallen over, is without any apparent injuries, but is unable to get up. The risks to both themselves and the resident in trying to physically lift someone off the floor are considerable.
The safest course of action is to request an ambulance. We are all actually aware of the pressure the ambulance service is currently under. From my own experience of calling an ambulance in the circumstances described above, to be told that you may need to wait up to 12 hours for assistance is devastating. We all appreciate the need to prioritise emergency responses but being stuck on the floor for hours does nothing for an individual’s dignity and in the long term it saps their confidence.
The availability of an emergency lifting cushion will greatly improve the quality of life for those living in Moorfield Court
