More than 12 short performances, each one looking at a different aspect of the history of Southwell.

This is the latest project by community theatre company Hanby and Barrett.

A whole host of community groups from Southwell and the surrounding area are involved! From the Guides to the WI there has been no shortage of people wanting to take part.

Writer Andy Barrett has been working with local historians to make sure that the project includes all of the most interesting things that have happened here!

As Andy explains, “The performance will be a bit like a traditional mystery cycle, with the audience moving from stage to stage, around the Minster, watching a different part of the history of the town unfold at each stopping point. More than a hundred performers are involved in the project, and countless others will have helped out behind the scenes.”

The company is used to ambitious projects though. In recent years they have staged other work in the area, at Elston, Maplebeck, Eakring, Caunton and Norwell, and Andy wrote the performance to mark the 750^th anniversary of Upton Village. The company likes large casts and often the drama is spectacular in nature!

There is still scope for people to get involved. Producer Julian Hanby explains, “We’re nearly there with the cast but we’re looking for some extras who can come in and boost things in the weeks leading up to the performance dates.” Anyone interested should call Julian on (0115) 911 6971.
