Strategic Plan Conference and Neighbourhood Policing PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 February 2007

What is it and what is it for?

The aim of the Conference is to inform as many people as possible abouth the Newark and Sherwood District Council Community Plan. Information and displays of all Community Plan Issue Groups will be displayed. The Issue Groups are: Community Safety Partnership, Community Action Network, Health and Well-being, Lifelong Learning, Economic Regeneration, Environment, Culture, Transport, Children and Young People. the day will give residents from Southwell and the surrounding villages the opportunity of influencing the future in these areas.

Southwell and many of the local villages have undertaken Town/Parish Plans. How do these fit with the District Council's vision for us?

Who will be there?

Representatives from the Issue Groups, District Councillors, Town Councillors, members of the Southwell Town Forum. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the representatives from the Groups and leave written comments to be taken back to the Dustrict Council.

Do come and make your opinions known.

Neighbourhood Policing

Inspector Gan attended the last Town Council meeting on 21st February and gave a briefing on the new proposals for Neighbourhood Policing through the Safer Neighbourhoods programme.

Firstly a consultation exercise will be undertaken to ask as many residents as possible what policing issues they have in our locality. This will be done via public meetings and street surveys.

Once this has been done,  the issues will be prioritised and the police, together with Newark and Sherwood District Council will tackle what has been raised.

The Town Council fully supported these proposals and agreed to put Community Safety on the Council agenda on a regular basis.

Inspector Gan will report back to the Council at the end of March.

Opportunist Thefts

Unfortunately these are increasing especially thefts from cars. SATNAV systems seem to be some of the more desirable items and motorists are urged to remove valuables from their cars and not to leave ANYTHING visible to tempt thieves.
