Objections to a radio mast in Southwell PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 19 June 2007
There is a groundswell of objections to the proposed amendments to the 15 metre monopole mast on the Ropewalk.

Under government guidelines, the erection of this mast has already been granted 'fast track' planning permission by Newark and Sherwood District Council. Southwell Town Council objected to the original application on the grounds that the location for the mast was inappropriate, being close to two schools and virtually in the centre of the town.

T-Mobile and National Grid Wireless then applied to amend this application to add further apparatus.

There are considerable concerns about possible health risk implications and a well organised body of objectors to the mast and the additions has been set up in the town. A 1000 signature petition is being forwarded to all the organisations involved and numerous letters of objection have been sent to the agents, Ian Hewitt Associates.  As a next stage, the Town Council has set up a private meeting between representatives of the objectors, T-Mobile and National Grid Wireless so that questions can be asked and objections aired.
