Bids for Community Funding The Town Council made two applications to the Notts County Council 'Building Better Communities' fund. One bid was for a proper footpath to Maythorne and the other was to improve the path from Caudwell House along Riverside to Station Road, to make it easier for staff pushing the Children into the town. We have now heard that we were not successful in the first round of bids, so we are asking that our bids now go forward to the second round. we are very disappointed to have been turned down as we felt that they were both very worthwhile ventures.
Open spaces An engraved stone will be placed on Froggatts Field this week, commemmorating the generous donation of the land to the town by Elizabeth and Richard Foggatt. Disappointingly, the County Council has delayed making a decision on both the Edward Cludd pond (in the War Memorial Park) and the playing fields behind the Church Street school buildings until May 2007. The Town Council is hoping to take over the ownership and management of both of these sites, to maintain the pond and to keep the fields as a green area for the residents of the town to enjoy. 101 bus service withdrawal Last week the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Town Council met with the Chairman of Upton Parish Council and a representative from Notts Transport to discuss the removal of the 101 bus service Southwell to and from Newark. This will cause problems for both our communities and the Councty council officer will go back and investigate whether there are any ways the crucial gaps in the service can be filled. Parking enforcement It has been confirmed by the District Council that the introduction of parking enforcement officers has been postponed from October 2007 until March 2008. This is a blow for Southwell as we suffer from a great deal of both anti-social and illegal parking in the town, which often makes traffic flow very difficult. It has been good to see our new Community Support Officer around the town and moving some of these vehicles on. Councillors Roger Dobson and Brendan Haigh met Inspector Gan last week and passed on to him concerns on policing issues from both the council and local residents. The Inspector confirmed that dealing with anti-social behaviour around the town, particularly at weekends needed to be a priority. The police will be having a manned display stand at the Town council organised 'Fun Day' on the Burgage on Saturday 23rd June. if you have any issues you would like to discuss with the police, do come along! |
