The Town Council has been successful in obtaining a grant to make improvements to the Old Courthouse. This imposing listed building, situated on the Burgage, houses the Police Station, the Council office, meeting rooms and cells. A wide variety of town organisations use the meeting rooms, including the Courtroom, which are on the first floor. The grant from Awards for All of £10,000 was awarded primarily to install a chairlift to make sure people with mobility issues can access the meeting rooms. The other part of the grant is to improve access to the old cells with the Civic Society having its collection of photos of Southwell in one cell and a display of artefacts collected from around the town being displayed in the other. Look out for information about forthcoming open days.
