Work is progressing on the bids for regeneration funding for the Town. Potentially this is £98,000 (£49,000 grant with the same as matched funding). The two main ideas which are being pursued are:

  • additional parking spaces around the Market Square area
  • a public convenience in the same area.

Both of these proposals are now being costed for the Town council by Newark and Sherwood District Council.

Brighter stall covers for the market were also suggested and got a lot of support from the audience at the meeting. Apparently these are already available and are in storage because the market traders do ot like them and prefer to use their own covers!!

Lamp posts

After complaints that several lamp posts remain unlit even after being reported, the Town Council will be undertaking a survey to identify and assess those out of order.

War Memorial Park toilets

Unfortunately these were vandalised last week. Toilet rolls were set alight and the waste pipe from the sink to the drain was smashed. This will be repaired (at a cost of about £50). It is a sad reflection on the behaviour of some of our anti social residents. already, the Council has had to close these toilets during the school lunch period in term time because of incidents of damage which have occurred at these times.

Skate park re-vamp

The work on the skate park should be completed on 3/4th May. An official 're-opening' will be held towards the end of May and we look forward to seeing the park even more used than before. The Town Council is very grateful to the group of youngsters who have helped with the design of the new facilities and who have offered to fundraise to improve it further.
