At the Town Council meeting last Wednesday, the Chairman of the Town Council, Beryl Prentice announced that she would like a theme of 'Cleaner and Greener Southwell' to be a central strand to the Council's activites in 2007/08.

The council is already making great efforts to encourage residents to dispose of their street litter by buying and placing extra litter bins around the town. More dog bins are now in place and the Council has announced a competition to design posters to raise public awareness of these bins. The council still gets far too many complaints about dog faeces on verges and in play areas.

The council is working with a local resident to identify an area of land to be developed as a 'Community Orchard', something which has been successfully introduced elsewhere as an educational and community asset.

We are also taking over the management of the Riverside area and are submitting a bid to the 'Building Better Communitites' fund to make the path along the Trail from Upton Road more accessible for wheelchairs.

The Town Council tent at the Funday also had a board asking for ideas for cleaning and greening the town. We haven't yet had time to look at these yet, but if YOU have any ideas as to what residents, the Town Council, children and anyone else could do, please let us know either via the Town Clerk or your local councillor.

We have a beautiful town. Let's make it even better!
