Notice is hereby given pursuant to section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that by reason of the death of Councillor Julian Hamilton (East Ward) and the resignation of Councillor Toni Smith (West Ward) two vacancies have occurred among the members of the Town Council. Any persons wishing to fill these vacancies should apply to the Clerk to the Town Council in writing, giving a brief summary of reasons for applying, on or before the 21st December 2017.

The applicant's name must appear on the current register of Electors List or the applicant should during the whole of the twelve months preceding the relevant date have resided in or within three miles of the parish or the applicant’s only place of work during the whole of the twelve months preceding the relevant date is in the town.  The applicant must not be debarred from standing as a Councillor.

Public elections are not held until May 2019 but for the interim period the present sitting Councillors may co-opt to fill the vacancies.

Applications will be considered at the next Full Town Council meeting due to take place on Wednesday 17th January 2018 where applicants may be invited to attend.

Southwell Town Council has recently taken on additional services such as managing Markets, Public Conveniences and Car Parks, Open Space amenity maintenance as well as the Tourist Information Centre.  In addition the council has for many years been responsible for the management of recreational play areas, community amenity areas, sports grounds and council owned buildings.

For further information on this very rewarding role in the community please do not hesitate to call The Clerk to the Town Council on 01636 816103

Do you need help with transport to start work or learning?

Do you need help with transport to start work or learning?

Wheels to Work is a transport solution scheme aimed at helping you get over the initial problem of getting to work, training or education.

We can provide:

  • A bicycle
  • Moped training if you have your own moped.

We would provide you with the actual goods or services, not the money to buy them with, and we cannot reimburse you for money already spent.

Our funders make regular checks to ensure we are helping people who are working or on a course. Therefore, we will need evidence from you of your employment or course, such as a copy of your contract, payslips or a letter confirming that you have been offered the job / course.
