The wedding takes place on April 29th and is an extra bank holiday.  Are you are thinking of holding a street party as a celebration??  It is a great opportunity for local communities to get together.  Detailed information on how to do it can be found on www.streetparty.com . Do remember to let the County Council know as they will advise you on road and other issues as necessary.

Look out for information about the special wedding event at the Minster. The Dean is making arrangements for anyone who wishes to view the ceremony on the big screen in the Minster, sing along with the hymns and enjoy a glass of bubbly afterwards.

The Roll of Honour in the Minster commemorates those Southwell men who gave their lives in the service of their country.  It was discovered that some names had been omitted and these are now to be added the Roll of Honour on a  new memorial that will be placed at the side of the original. The service will take place on Saturday 30th April in the Minster at 11.00am. Please contact the Town Council office if you would like to attend.  On the same evening the Royal British Legion is launching its ‘Concerts In the Cathedral’ programme with a performance by the Royal Airforce Band who you may remember gave a wonderful performance in the  War Memorial Park at the Sunset Ceremony.

The bad weather caused many residents great problems, in particular some not being able to even leave their homes to get to the shops. Many thanks to the kind neighbours and friends who looked in and checked on their neighbours and helped by clearing snow off the paths and running errands.

Hopefully we have now seen the last of the very cold weather this winter but harsh weather may become a regular pattern so we are asking residents to ‘Be Prepared’.  So, well in advance of next winter: buy your snow shovel, identify older residents who live near you who might need help when the weather is bad and make sure your loft spaces and pipes are well insulated.

As a service for the many people that use the park, the Council is looking for a local  business to sell snacks and drinks in the War Memorial Park over the summer on a trial basis.  A ‘ground rent’ would be payable which would help towards the upkeep of the area. If you are interested in offering this service telephone the Clerk to discuss your ideas.
