What You Told Us

We would like to thank all the residents who kindly took the time to send us their comments and suggestions about the Town Council taking on more services.  The feedback has been very positive and all responses have supported the proposal for the Town Council to adopt more responsibilities. For example, one resident wrote:

I think it’s a great idea that the Town Council takes over more local services – the nearer they are to home, the more likely that residents’ opinions will be taken into account.

and another said

We live in a special place and we all want to keep it that way. So a definite yes.

Other issues raised such as parking problems, grass-cutting, litter and over-grown privately owned hedges have all been noted and the Council will continue to work on these.

In response to queries regarding the “additional land”, this refers to small pockets of open space within housing developments, for example the play area at Humberstone Road.

Following the positive support shown by residents, Councillors discussed the District Council’s latest offer at the January meeting of the Town Council and are now in the final stages of negotiation with them.

Neighbourhood Plan Update

In January, the District Council submitted the Southwell Neighbourhood Plan to an Independent Examiner with their support.  When the Town Council knows what the examiner’s recommendations are, we will discuss them at our first available opportunity in consultation with the District Council.

Meeting your Councillors

As part of the Town Council’s initiative to work more closely with the community we are holding regular drop-in sessions.  Your opinions are extremely valuable, so please come and talk to us.  You will find us in the Market Square, The Admiral Rodney or the Library every 3rd Saturday of the month.  The next drop in session will be Saturday 12th March in the Market Square.

We also held our most recent ‘Parks and Open Spaces’ meeting at the Minster School when students had the opportunity to take part.

Friends of Southwell Parks

With the support of the Town Council, this hard-working group of volunteers has now applied for numerous grants for community projects, totalling over £50,000 towards improving and extending the play area for younger children in the Memorial Park.   We shall hear whether these have been successful in the next few months and will keep you up to date with progress.  In the meantime we would like to thank the group for all their hard work.

Adopt a drain

Is there a surface-water drain near where you live? You can help to prevent the build-up of water on the roads by making sure that the drain cover is clear of leaves and debris. If the one near you is blocked, you can either clear it yourself or call the Nottinghamshire County Council Drainage Manager on 01623 520 741 or email .
