When the tip was reprieved, earlier this year, the County Council announced that it would be closing the tip in October 2007 for refurbishment.

However, this is no longer so and no work will be done on the site during this financial year, due to pressue on funding. Regular users of the tip will have been glad to see that the big potholes have been filled in and that the tip is as busy as ever.

With Christmas fast approaching, the Trading Standards Office has put out a warning regarding a postal fraud.

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to call them on 0906 6611911.

THIS IS A PREMIUM RATE NUMBER AND IS A FRAUD EMANATING FROM BELIZE.

If you call this number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed for at least £15.

If you do receive a card with these details, please contact the Royal Mail Fraud on 02072 396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk

Flooding Meeting PDF Print E-mail
Written by Southwell Council
Monday, 01 October 2007

About 80 - 100 residents came to Trebeck Hall on Wedesday 12th September to put questions to the various bodies involved with and responsible for water, drainage, highways and rivers and streams in the town. This meeting was organised and facilitated by the Town Council, who, although it does not have any direct esponsibility or resources for any of the above, felt it was important that residents should have the opportunity to speak to the agencies directly and have their voices heard.

The representatives who included Notts County Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Severn Trent, the Environment Agency and  N&S Inland Drainage Board listened to residents and some agreed that there had been omissions in maintenance works.

The Town Council has set up a group of 7 councillors who will be monitoring the activities of the agencies of the next few months.

As part of this monitoring, on Thursday 4th October, the Council Chairman Beryl Prentice, the Town Clerk and other councillors will be attending a 'Rural Resilience Conferrence' at Kelham Hall. District Councillors have also been invited to attend.

Last Wednesday the Planning Committee of the Town Council listened to a statement made by the 'No Masts in Southwell' campaign group and voted to support the attempts to change legislation to make it compulsory for applications for installation of new masts to be submitted for full planning approval as is usual for other installations.

It was also pointed out that there is no regulatory body to oversee mast construction and location as there is for other bodies (e.g. OFTEL, OFWAT, OFGEN). The committee recommended that Government be pressed to set up such a body.
